The mentoring component is a unique feature of LAMP. It is designed to help the student attain a greater balance of growth during the course of study. A Mentor is in charge of the GLEE program. Every student at LAMP is assigned a mentor by the Learning Site Coordinator. This individual is a mature, seasoned and experience minister of the gospel. Mentor is to provide spiritual, emotional and pastoral support. In most cases, this will be your local pastor. As you work beside your mentor, you will gain insight and a wealth of practical experience. It is the blending of reformed doctrines (academics) and practical ministry that can help transform a student. We see this example in the life of Jesus and his disciples; as well as with Paul and Timothy in the training of leadership.
1. Make an appointment to meet with your mentor. You will need about 30-60 minutes.
2. Begin your time together in prayer. Your mentor has been recruited to help you in spiritual and practical growth.
3. This is a brief outline:
| a. Mentor provides guidelines for setting growth goals on a GLEE-by-GLEE basis. b. For each course you and your mentor will decide on personal growth goals, following the guidelines provided. c. For the first 2 years you will meet monthly for about an hour and every 3 months you will accomplish one GLEE’s. Usually the first meeting is an assessment and the 2 follow up meetings are to deal with: progress, problems, challenges and prayer requests. d. The following 4 years you will meet bi-monthly for about an hour and every 6 months you will accomplish one GLEE’s. Usually the first meeting is an assessment and the follow up meetings are to deal with: progress, problems, challenges and prayer requests. e. At the end of each GLEE you and your mentor will write a brief assessment of your progress toward the goals you set. This will be sent to your Learning Site and reviewed as part of LAMP Core Requirement. |
